I am enthralled by the beauty in minute details whether it be in a flower, a portrait, an animal picture or a landscape.  I simply cannot let a painting or drawing be finished until the details seem right to me.  I also love to push the colors to their most vibrant hues.  Perhaps it is from my background as a research nurse where details mattered, or my love of sewing, and quilting where color is so engaging, but it seems to be an innate trait of mine.  It has lead me to colored pencil where I can get those fine details or to painting slowly in a realistic style.

The clowns are from a picture I took at Children's Hospital when I was volunteering there for 10 years and are a tribute to the marvelous work they do. The African children's picture was taken by a friend who teaches AIDS education in Ghana, Africa and has shared her deeply moving experience with me.  My husband is bicycling down Chinook Pass on Mt . Rainier.

Recently I have been challenging myself by drawing people and portraits.  I took the portrait workshop by Joe MacKechnie and Dan Riley and have been doing figure drawing at the Northshore Senior Center with Deb Knetzger.  I have learned most of my artistic skills at the Northshore Senior Center taking drawing and painting classes there and have been active in helping run their Fine Art Show.  I have also taken oil painting from Terri Davis, a fellow detail-oriented artist.
I have been juried into the Kenmore and Bothell art shows.  I would be happy to consider doing commissioned art pieces for fellow detail lovers.

I started painting and drawing in 1997 after retiring from nursing and bicycling across the United States on a tandem with my husband.  I love to paint scenes from experiences that are important to me.
I have been a member of the Color Pencil Society of America since 1998 and have shown in many of their shows and have belonged to the Cottage Lake Artist Guild since 2005.  The clowns, in colored pencil, are from a picture.
I have many landscape and European scenes that I have painted from pictures I took while traveling.  I have pictures of my son and daughter-in-law and their wedding.  When a scene is special to me I relive the experience and beauty of it by painting or drawing it.
